A couple of decades back I heard about someone’s suggestion for the “2-minute rule”. I used it for a while and then forgot about it. But given all the stuff we need to do around the house these days, I’m bringing it back.
It’s super simple: Any task you’re presented with that will take you two minutes or less should just get done on the spot.
Need to wash your bowl and cup from breakfast? Just do it.
Need to get that clean laundry from the dryer up to the bedroom? Just do it.
Need to refill the poop bags for your next dog walking? Just do it.
The idea is that all of these tiny jobs need to get done anyway, and are so quickly knocked down that there’s no point in bothering to add them to a To Do list for later when you could just get it done in literally less time than it takes to brush your teeth.
Then that’s one less thing on your mind, one less thing on your list, and lets you move on with your day with that little — but necessary — thing done.
