I’m honestly not sure why naps aren’t more popular.
They shake off the tiredness and recharge the batteries if you maybe had a bad night, or if you worked particularly hard, or if you’ve been kept very busy lately, or maybe all of the above (he says, perhaps being somewhat self-referential)…
It seems like it’s getting more frequent when I talk to someone and they mention in passing that they’d gone out of their way to have a nap. But they always say it bluntly, as if they have no problem saying it. Which I think is a good thing.
We seem to be gradually coming out of a decades-long run of people thinking they need to stay busy, or at least sound like they’re staying busy, in order to get some kind of social credit or approval. Don’t be seen or perceived as not being busy, the message seemed to be. I didn’t hear as much about people taking naps even ten or fifteen years ago. But now it’s getting more common.
I’m wondering if it maybe has something to do with the increasing acceptance and encouragement toward better self-care with the likes of therapy.
Whatever the case, they’re great. Nap, dear reader, and do it proudly.
