Update on my 50 Books This Year challenge

Those of you who read my posts through to the end (and why wouldn’t you? It’s all gold, I tell you. Gold.) will recall that back in December I jotted a note at the end of this post that I was going to try a challenge to myself to read 50 books in 2025.

Well, we’re half way through that now (already?), so I thought I should take a tally of how things are proceeding.

According to my monthly notes, as of this writing, I’ve read 28 books since January first. So I’m in good shape to get to, and maybe even surpass, 50 books by the end of the year.

That assumes I can keep up some better balance in what I listen to, mind you. The first few months of the year were focused on listening to audiobooks whenever practically possible, entirely to make good headway on the challenge. But as a guy who normally listens to a variety of nearly twenty podcasts — admittedly a lot, which I could probably do with whittling down — I found that those were of course piling up as I was spending my free-to-listen time on books. Lately that’s swung the other way, and I’ve been catching up on podcasts but at the expense of hearing more books. Hopefully I’ll be able to strike a better mix of the two for the next six months.

The challenge remains a challenge.

Onward!
